East coast of Wajo District in South Sulawesi was fully occupied by mangrove ecosystem before 1980. Since 1980 the mangrove has been degraded by local community and replaced by intensive shrimp farming. In early 2000 the local communities feel that the degradation of mangrove ecosystem has influenced to their shrimp productivity and more worse that the sea wave become a new threat to their house and their shrimp production area. In 2008 a national program named PNPM green, a community empowerment based program on environmental began to be implemented. Pasir putih villagers joined effort to reclaim their lost mangrove Totally 25 ha mangrove been established with 250.000 mangrove ree species, mostly Rizhopora appiculata in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
