OWT is an NGO established on October 1, 2004 in Baubau, Buton-Southeast Sulawesi under the name Operation Wallacea Trust (OWT)
OWT was legalized according to the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number: AHU-7820.AH.01.04. Year 2013 dated December 2, 2013 under the name Yayasan Operasi Wallacea Terpadu (OWT).

Past and Current Portfolios

The main objective of Operasi Wallacea Terpadu is “empowering communities and governments in better and sustainable management of natural resources” which is carried out through:
• Improving natural resource management at the village and district levels,
• Increasing community and government capacity in natural resource management, and Facilitation of rural communities in creating a variety of sustainable livelihoods and environmentally friendly technologies that are applicable to rural communities.
The main activities of OWT are: Forest and Land Rehabilitation and Restoration, Watershed Management, Agroforestry Development, Natural Resource Management, Sustainable Livelihoods Development, Renewable Energy Development, Carbon Stock Survey, Strengthening Village Government and Institutions, Forest Seed, Community Nursery Development, Public awareness, Ecotourism, and Forest Health Monitoring.
Since 2004, OWT has worked to empower communities to encourage nature conservation (empowering community for conservation) as well as landscape restoration in forest, coastal, mangrove, and community empowerment areas for better management of natural resources at the village / sub-district / districts.
OWT is an NGO selected by the World Bank as a companion to the PNPM Environmental Independent Rural Program in Southeast Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, West Sumatra and Bengkulu Provinces from 2007 – 2013. OWT has worked with GIZ and DANIDA in the ESP-II Program to develop Micro Hydro Power (MHP) ), training of Micro Hydro Power (MHP) Maintenance Teams, development of Productive Use of Energy and Restoration of Community-Based Water Catchments in Mamasa (Sulbar), North Luwu (Sulsel), Agam (West Sumatra), South Tapanuli (Sulut) Regencies. Designated by UNESCO and WWF-EFN to carry out ecosystem restoration in Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. OWT from 2014 to 2019 won the trust to implement the Tropical Forest Conservation Act Program. (TFCA) Kalimantan Cycle I to implement a project on “Community Based Lesan River Protected Forest Management Model”. In addition, from 2012 to December 2015 OWT worked closely with ICRAF to provide agroforestry assistance in East Kolaka and Konawe Selatan Districts. Various experiences of the OWT project both directly and indirectly contribute to efforts to tackle climate change through land mitigation, energy mitigation, and adaptation.
From 2004 to 2019, OWT received various funding sources from various donors (GEF, CIDA, DANIDA, AUSAid, World Bank, Millennium Challenge Account-Indonesia, Tropical Forest Conservation Act Kalimantan, UNESCO, and WWF-EFN). OWT has received funding administered by the Kehati Foundation. OWT is audited every year by an external auditor who provides a Management letter to improve its financial administration. During this period OWT financial reports were always rated as satisfactory by the World Bank, Kehati and external auditors, and there were no ‘material’ errors found. These records can illustrate how OWT’s capacity is in managing and administering finances. OWT administers finance based on Indonesian Financial Accounting Standards, OWT conducts intensive internal control of transactions and financial records to ensure that fraud does not occur, the use of budget is efficient and well targeted, effective budget absorption and reports are error free and timely
