Extension Program Activities of Forest Management Area Assistance in APL In Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan Province

KLHK through the KalFor project has a program to prepare technical services needed by villages to realize village innovation activities based on sustainable management of forested areas in APL. The project phase I has been carried by OWT started from July 2020 – August 2021 in four villages (Sinar Kuri, Riam Bunut, Pangkalan Suka, and Tanjung Pasar).  The approach strategy to be applied was in the form of intensive facilitation and technical assistance in the field, especially to the community and village government at all stages of the project activities.

The implementation of phase 1 KalFor project in Ketapang was still at the limit of exploring potential, early development of community livelihoods, formation and strengthening of institutions, to the process of obtaining management legality, etc., so that various program outputs that have been carried out can continue to run, it is necessary to continue mentoring activities after the end of Phase I mentoring in four villages in Ketapang Regency. Through further assistance, it is hoped that it will further strengthen the readiness of villages and communities in implementing the management of forested areas outside the forest area, both related to: APL management planning, APL utilization (NTFPs, drinking water sources, ecotourism, etc.), APL conservation and protection, to rehabilitation. APL so that villages and communities are better prepared and understand how they can manage forested areas outside the forest area, including sustainable livelihood development, ecotourism, promotion, and marketing

Project Location:

3 Village target: Sinar Kuri, Riam Bunut Village Sungai Laur Sub-district,  and Pangkalan Suka Village  Nanga Tayap Sub- District.

Project Objectives

Objective 1: Protect and increase productivity of Forested Areas Outside Forest Areas (APL) as a source of stock and carbon sequestration, biodiversity, environmental services, sources of livelihood, and community cultural values

Objective 2:  Building sustainable (non-extractive) low-emission sources of livelihood based on: NTFPs, plant cultivation, and ecotourism

Objective 3: Replicate best practice of APL management

November 2022 – Oktober 2023

Beneficiaries

During the 12 months of the program, 462 people (M: 340, P: 124) or 27% of women were involved in the activities, including the village government, community, NGOs and the private sector.
